I fixed the impact of the last Gmail change that stopped GTDInbox loading, and it was embarrassingly trivial (just a line of code to change!). So I took the opportunity to add a new ‘emergency traffic light’ feature - an amber or red bulb that can be remotely activated if there is a problem in the future. It’s really for those who otherwise would not read the blog, as a means to reassure regular users that “we know GTDInbox may be having problems, and we are working on it”, and to help them manually download a patch.
You can manually install the new release from http://gtdinbox.com/gtdinbox_2-0-5.xpi
Update
I forget sometimes that not everyone has manually installed the XPI before - sorry!
Fortunately, it is quite straight forward. This is the really safe way of doing it:
- Download the above .xpi file to your computer
- In Firefox, click ‘Tools’ and then ‘Addons’.
- In the window that pops up, select GTDInbox and click ‘Uninstall’
- Restart Firefox
- In Firefox, click ‘File’ and then ‘Open File’
- Select the .xpi that you just downloaded
- Click ‘Open’
- The normal installation routine should now begin…

Great!
Thank You once again for saving the day.
The speed of Your “saves” really compensates for GMails terrorism. A normal (M$) product would have been dead by now.

As a recent convert to GTDInbox, I had settled on this tool yesterday and started converting everthing.
I knew if I was patient today…you would find a fix!!
Thank you much!!! Love the tool.

Thank you very much for the quick response. I installed 2.0.5 a couple of hours ago.
I wonder if there is another change needed as it now seems the Status and Context headings in the label sidebar are replicating themselves until I reload the whole page. Weird.
I am running Firefox 3.0b4. If there is any other information that I can provide to help with this, just ask.
Thanks.

When I first noticed the problem and read your previous blog post I thought I would look at the code of the plug in and the Gmail page.
After my eyes started bleeding, I felt a humble “thank you” was in order.
Thank you, Andy, sir. Love the tool. And I REALLY appreciate the effort.

Quick fix! Thanks. Now I suppose I’ll have to put my money where my mouth is and donate some $$.
Thanks again!

This is a great update, but I am now having the problem of my label headers (statuses and misc) repeating and growing over time. Only one set of the pair has labels, the others are just blank headers. Reload of gmail resets the list, but it seems that they grow again with every refresh of the labels list (perhaps on incoming mail refresh?)

Thanks, it’s working great.
There are one or two minor bugs (I don’t get the labels dashboard when composing personal mails and the Labels block on the left seems to start duplicating itself every now and then).

It’s worth noting that there’s a quicker way to manually install the update.
All you have to do is open the Add-ons window and drag the link onto it. The installation box will then pop up.
Great job on the extension, I really appreciate the quick fixes.

Or you can drag and drop the downloaded xpi into your firefox window as an alternative method…

Just curious: why is the latest version not available through the Firefox addons update service? That’s still stuck at 2.01….

Larry F, Joseph, Schoonzie - thanks guys and well spotted; I’ll fix that up before the day’s over.
John and rs - i didn’t realise you could drag & drop it; that’s probably an easier way of doing it
Peter - Mozilla aren’t speedy at doing updates. They like to ponder things, let them be reviewed, etc. etc. - it’s very frustrating!
Aprigliano - the code base isn’t as crazy as it may at first look; but Gmail certainly presents… challenges

Andy,
I’m one more person who just discovered GTDInbox about two weeks ago, and *love* it. Your documentation did a great job of preparing me for how to use it, and for these apparently inevitable little crashes as gmail evolves. So, when I encountered the problems in the last couple of days, I knew to go right to the forum and see how you were progressing. By the time I finally got around to checking out the forums, many more people had already described the problems I was having, and you’d already released this update. It was a simple trick to uninstall the old, install the new version, and then get back to business as usual - or rather enhanced by this amazing ad-on.
SO, this post is just to say - thank you, very much, for a great experience so far.
- Matt

@rs - sure, that would be great. Drop me an email if you find anything promising. The only thing is it cannot go through Mozilla, they’re very slow to update!
@Matt - thank you
