It is a little behind schedule, it is far from finished, and it may do less than earlier versions of GTDInbox did… but no one can now deny it is here!

Most importantly of all, I hope donators feel exceptionally proud - you are directly responsible for the new found momentum GTDInbox has. I hope I said thank you to every one of you personally, but I’ll never hesitate to say it again - thank you all.

The new website will go up either later on tonight or tomorrow, but it doesn’t yet have any help documentation anyway - so you are not missing anything.

As such, this release is only for people experienced with GTDInbox. There are no options to customise, no install routines to set labels up, and no help guides.

It’s also important to note that none of your settings will be carried over, but there are virtually no settings anyway. (I will try and set up the Options interface as soon as possible).

What we do have is a brand new backend that is more robust, and a brand new UI that has stripped all non-essential features and focused on making the remaining core features work as well as possible.

Over the next few weeks you will see rapid releases as we fix the bugs you find (please email me for now - andy@gtdinbox.com - the forum is no longer the best place to report bugs); and build in the features we want for launch (there’s really just a handful of filter functions and a lot more polishing remaining). So stay peeled on this blog.

Please download it from,

(You should be able to open this link with Firefox and it will automatically install; otherwise download it to your computer, then in Firefox click ‘File’ -> ‘Open File’ and select it from the location you downloaded to. In both cases you will need to restart Firefox).

I for one would like to say I love what I see. The dashboard is especially exciting to me. I was seriously beginning to worry over the long silence. I was concerned that GTDInbox might fall by the wayside. I’m very relieved to see the continued commitment to it. I will be happy to continue to support it. Thanks to all who have made it possible.

I tried it, using Firefox 3.0.10, but went back to 2.1a6 because I couldn’t see any way to add Project labels and Context labels, and some other basic tasks. I wonder if I see everything or not. Some screen shots would help to know what to look for, or to spot what is missing.

You have to head to the comment he made, “this release is only for people experienced with GTDInbox”

You can add Project and Context labels by using the regular add new label function in gmail and adding the P/, S/, C/ as the prefix.

    P/Save World
    S/Next Action on Sat
    C/In my car

    etc, etc.

It could be some other reason - but since the upgrade i don’t seem to be able to Compose messages… it just hangs in “loading”…

amazing but where is the “hipster print”

  6. kynan Says:

@Wibbler: I have the same problem, a workaround is to hit Shift+C (or Shift+). This will open a new browser window with the GMail composition form in it that you can use.

Bug Report: The [Dashboard] link to turns into a duplicate [Spam] link. If you go to GMail in a new tab and log in the link-order in the top-left corner is:
    Compose Mail
    Compose Personal
    Inbox
    Chats
    Sent Mail
    Drafts
    Spam
    Dashboard

If you clear out the [Spam] folder (dropping the unread count to 0) and then new spam comes in, the [Dashboard] link is pushed up above the [Spam] link and turns into another [Spam] link. At that point, both [Spam] links take you to the [Spam] folder and the [Dashboard] link is gone.

Refreshing the page (via the browser, not just clicking on the GMail logo) will get it back.

    Hi,
I tried 3.0.10 but had to uninstall and rollback to 2.1a6 because alpha 3 did not work at all. I’m using FF 3.0.10 english.

    Regards,

    Ste

Thanks for putting it out, so far its working fine for me. I’m using it with OS X, FF 3.0.10, and in conjunction with Gmail manager, and its working well in both personal gmail accounts and hosted (google apps) accounts. Pretty slick UI so far!

    Thanks again.

same thing here @oscar Firefox says it is active but no love.

Not even in the settings panel.

    Firefox 3.0.1 - Kubuntu.

I can’t pre-mark with the labels like the previous version I had that was about 4 or 5 months old. It looks nicer, but I’m pure utility. I made my staff upgrade to the newer version, and they have started saying they liked working with the older version as well. We were at version 2 something before we just installed 3 alpha 7.

Also, I like the Dashboard and how it breaks the emails up into projects for viewing, but it would be nice if, right from the dashboard, I can reply and compose in those threads without having to leave the Dashboard and go back into the GMail environment.

I’m a contributor, and wish the project to continue as it’s useful for those who live and work out of their inbox. I look forward to improvements along the lines above, and also for continued improvements to help teams organize and collaborate.

Keep up the great work Andy and team. And thanks for your hard work; it shows.
